Saptari flood victims to get relief soon

Rajbiraj, July 23

Twenty-one flood affected families in Saptari, whose houses were washed away by flood in the last week of June, will be receiving government relief very soon as the committee formed to collect data of genuine victims has submitted its report.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, during his monitoring of flood-affected areas in the district, had promised Rs 25,000 in relief to the victims. A day after the PM’s declaration, a meeting of the Council of Ministers had taken a decision to provide Rs 15,000 to erect houses and Rs 10,000 to buy corrugated zinc sheets for roofs.

According to District Natural Disaster Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katawal, the relief will be distributed on the basis of report prepared by the committee formed to collect data of genuine victims.

“As the committee has submitted its report, relief distribution will start soon after resolving technical issues,” he said, adding, “As we’d already given Rs 5,000 to each of the victims, now they will get additional 20,000 rupees.” The victims are from Raghunathpur, Rayapur, Maleth and Sakarapura.

As many as 742 houses were partially damaged by the floods.
