SC quashes DIG Silwal's writ, approves Aryal promotion

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed the writ petition filed by DIG Navaraj Silwal against IGP appointment and approved Prakash Aryal's promotion to the Inspector General of Nepal Police.

An extended full bench including Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and Justices Om Prakash Mishra, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Sharda Prasad Ghimire, Mira Khadka, Prakashman Singh Raut and Purospottam Bhandari made the decision today.

Earlier, the apex court had directed the government to promote DIG Prakash Aryal as the Inspector General of Nepal Police based on performance evaluation.

However, DIG Navaraj Silwal had filed a writ petition against the promotion of DIG Aryal to the post of IGP claiming that he was on the top among four DIG in performance evaluation sheet.

The full bench of justices today made the decision after the court could not find any reasonable evidences and relevance on which the claim was made, reads the decision.
