Security beefed up in Lumbini ahead of heads of state visit

In view of the scheduled visit of the presidents of Myanmar and Sri Lanka, security has been stepped up in Lumbini of late.

According to Rupandehi CDO Udaya Bahadur Rana, teams of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and National Investigation Department have been mobilised along the corridor from Gautam Buddha Airport of Bhairahawa to Lumbini for security.

“There has been a robust security arrangement as security personnel equipped with sniffer dogs and modern communication equipment are deployed,” said Federal Police Unit Office chief Rajendra Dhakal.

While Myanmar president is scheduled to visit Lumbini tomorrow, the Sri Lankan president will visit the Buddhist pilgrimage site on Saturday. The fourth BIMSTEC summit will be held in Kathmandu in August 30 and 31.

Province 5 Chief Minister Shankar Pokhrel and Minister for Culture and Tourism Rabindra Adhikari will welcome the president of Myanmar in Lumbini tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in view of the visit of the dignitaries, decoration and beautification has also intensified in Lumbini of late.
