Seven die in Dudhkunda accident

Solukhumbu, June 29

Seven persons were killed when a Bolero jeep met with an accident at Barbot of Dudhkunda Municipality-11, Solukhumbu, this morning.

According to assistant Chief District Officer Tupti Sherpa, the jeep, en route to the district headquarters Salleri from Necha, fell some 500 metres below the road.

The deceased have been identified as Kushan Tamang, 21, Shiv Kumar Yadav,36, Kopila Basnet Karki, 24, Shyam Kumar Rai, 40, Urmila Bastola, 35, Sushila Khadka, 25 and seven-year-old Sushma Khadka.

Assistant CDO Sherpa said six persons died on the spot whereas critically injured Sushma died while undergoing treatment at Salleri-based Faplu Hospital.

Deceased Yadav was a forester at Nechasalyan Range Post and Karki was forest guard at the same range post. Deceased Rai was owner of the jeep and Tamang the driver. Bodies have been sent to Faplu Hospital for post-mortem.

Immediately after the accident, a team of Nepal Police and the Nepali Army had reached the accident site for rescue. The accident site is a two-and-a-half hours drive from the headquarters.
