One killed, six hurt in Saptari elephant attack

RAJBIRAJ: One person lost his life and six others were injured, two of them critically, after a wild elephant that strayed into human settlement attacked them in Hanumannagar Bazaar of Saptari district on Tuesday morning.

Police said that the elephant had come to the human settlement from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

All the injured are local residents.

Critically injured Roshan Jha breathed his last at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences during the course of treatment. Sanjeev Saha and Kalicharan Saha are receiving treatment in the same hospital.

Four others, Nabina Khatun, Sanjaya Safi, Mohammad Istakh and Basanta Mandal, are receiving treatment at the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj.

After it wreaked havoc in Hunumannagar Bazaar, locals and security personnel shooed away the pachyderm, according to Ajaya Bhagat, a local resident.
