KATHMANDU: Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang has accepted Baburam Bhattarai's resignation as a member of Parliament, according to the Parliament Secretariat.

Bhattarai was elected as a lawmaker from Gorkha -1 in the Constituent Assembly elections in November 2013.

The former Prime Minister announced on September 26 that severed all ties with the UCPN-Maoist and gave up the membership of Legislature-Parliament also.

With Bhattarai's resignation accepted, the UCPN-Maoist has now 83 members left in the Parliament.

The Maoist party has decided to support CPN-UML candidate KP Sharma Oli in the election and has issued a whip to its lawmakers to compulsorily attend the meeting and cast their votes as per the party decision.
