Fuel crunch hits projects in far-west

Due to the ongoing Tarai bandh and obstruction at border points, many development projects have been affected in the far-west region.

National and local level projects have been affected due to lack of fuel on the 103rd day of the Tarai protest.

It is said many projects such as Ranijamara Irrigation Project, Seti Lokmarga, Chamaliya Micro Hydro Project, Budhiganga Project, Sanphe-Martadi Road, Mid-hilly Highway, Mahakali Irrigation Project, among others, in Kailali have been affected due to the agitation in the plains.

Engineer-Amrit Rimal of road division office said developmental projects in the region have been badly affected.

Krishna Bom, a contractor, said work on the Martadi-Kolti road section was yet to start due to lack of fuel.

The department of road said black-topping along the Martadi road section and construction of bridge on this road had been affected. Work on the Budhiganga project, which began last year, has been discontinued.

Similarly, sources at the irrigation project said work on Ranijamara Irrigation Project had stopped.

It is said various projects in the mid-hill highway road section of Achham have also been stalled due to fuel crunch.

Meanwhile, Bajura Chief District Officer Dhana Prasad Sharma Poudel said development work had been affected due to fuel crisis.

Many projects of District Development Committee, municipalities and VDCs, among other departments in the fiscal of 2015/16 could not come into operation due to the fuel crunch.

Laxman Rawal, a local of Bahrabisa VDC, Bajura, said works on the Dab-Khaptad Road section has yet to resume though the contract was signed three months ago.

Engineer, Devi Prasad Pandey, of district technicians office said no work had been done in the district. He said they could not resume work even if the centre tells them to complete works in the district.
