Sugarcane farmers obstruct Rautahat road demanding payment

RAUTAHAT: Sugarcane farmers in Rautahat district on Wednesday obstructed the Gaur-Chandranigahapur road section in the district demanding that the Shreeram Sugar Mills immediately pay them the due amount for purchase of the sugarcane.

Around 500 farmers gathered in front of the Mills in Garuda Municipality and obstructed the road from 11 am to 1 pm today.

A farmer leader Ashok Yadav said they resorted to the road obstruction after the company did not pay them millions of rupees due for last three years despite that it assured the farmers time and again.

He informed that the company was due to pay them as much as Rs 950 million for three fiscal years including the current one.

The demonstration would continue tomorrow as well, according to Yadav.

He said the protesters would obstruct the Rautahat section of the East-West Highway on coming Saturday.
