SC stays move to let big buses ply BP highway

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the government’s decision to allow movement of bigger vehicles on the BP Highway.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla issued an interim order and show cause notice to the government, including Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth had decided on May 27 to let big vehicles ply the BP Highway.

Advocate Kailash Raj Dahal had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Sunday challenging the government’s decision to allow movement of 32-seater buses, arguing that movement of big vehicles would increase the risk of accidents, as the highway has numerous sharp turns.

The petitioner has sought to quash the government’s decision to allow large vehicles on the highway.
