Ten years on, rhino poacher lands in CNP net

CHITWAN: After ten years of relentless search, Chitwan National Park (CNP) officials have finally arrested an infamous rhinoceros poacher and hide smuggler and put him behind bars.

According to CNP Assistant Conservation Officer and Information Officer Nurendra Aryal, the smuggler, Ishwari Prasad Mahato of Kawasoti in Nawalparasi District was nabbed on Friday.

CNP had recorded two cases of illegal poaching of rhinoceros and trading animal parts against seven people including Mahato on October 14, 2009. Moreover, CNP had slapped 30 years jail term and Rs120,000 as fine to the accused.

Following CNP’s verdict, Mahato is said to have absconded to India. However, a team of CNP sleuths upon receiving information that Mahato had entered Nepal 45 days ago followed him and arrested the accused from Nawalparasi.
