Summit success on Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga

KATHMANDU: The world’s highest mountain recorded successful summits this morning as the world climbers have continued their final summit pushes on different mountains, according to the expedition organisers.

Ang Jangbu Sherpa, Managing Director at Beyul Adventure Pvt Ltd said that at least 23 climbers of International Mountain Guides expedition successfully scaled Mt Everest this morning.

“Harrison Scott Hamlin, Erik Zeller Siveringhaus, Ariel Matthew Crowely, Francois Godcharles from US, Simon John Barnett (UK), Javier Dliver Villuendas (Spain) and Alexander Mag Stangl (Austria) made it to the summit of Mt Everest, Sherpa said. “Chhewang Lendu Sherpa, Namgel Dorjee Tamang, Pasang Kami Sherpa, Fura Gyalzen Sherpa, Pasang Ngima Sherpa, Palden Sherpa, Sonam Dorjee Sherpa, Mingma Sona Sherpa and Temba Sherpa accompanied the IMG climbers to the summit of the world’s highest peak,” he told THT from base camp.

Similarly, American climber Kevin Joseph Kayl, Ka Hei Benjamin Joseph Gabriel Chan from UK and Brazilian mountaineer Andre Marcello Borges De Freitas along with Phinjo Dorjee Sherpa, Ngima Tenji Sherpa, Sonam Tashi Sherpa and Tshering Samduk Sherpa scaled Mt Everest this morning, Sherpa added.

According to Asian Trekking Pvt Ltd, David Liano Gonzalez from Mexico along with Pasang Rita Sherpa successfully climbed Mt Everest yesterday.

Five members - Suryakant Uniyal, Manoj Kumar Joshi, Vijendra Kuriyal, Praveen Singh, Yogesh Singh – of Uttarakhand Police team also scaled the world’s highest peak, Manager Sanjaya Baral (Kaju) told THT. “The Indian climbers were accompanied by Samden Bhote, Shera Gyalzen Sherpa, Sonam Finju Sherpa, Dafuri Sherpa and Tshering Chhosang Sherpa to the top of Mt Everest,” he added.

Earlier, Jakob Urth (Denmark) along with Lakpa Rinji Sherpa and Ngima Kanchha Sherpa successfully climbed Mt Everest, he said, adding that Alyssa Nicole Azar (Australia), Stephane Eric Marc (France) and Michel Viso (France) also stood atop the mountain. “Nawang Tenjing Sherpa, Dafuri Sherpa and Pasang Sherpa accompanied the world climbers to the summit point.”

Similarly, a seven-member Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation expedition team also made it to the top of Mt Kanchenjuga. “Nirmal Kumar, Pankaj Joshi, Monti Rajkhowa , Palkesh Kalma, Gaurav Kadian, Yogendar Garbiyal and Rahul Jarngal along with climbing Sherpas- Dawa Steven Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa (Jarok), Pasang Sherpa (Jarok), Pemba Tshiring Sherpa, Pemba Chhiring Sherpa, Da Jangbu Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Pasang Tshering Sherpa (Jarok) and Lhakpa Tenje Sherpa made it to the top of world‘s third highest mountain yesterday,” Baral informed.

According to him, Harshad Kamalaksha Rao (India), Antonios Sykaris (Greece), Fotios Theocharis (Greece) and Alessandro D’emilia (Italy) along with Pemba Tshering Sherpa, Sonam Tshiring Sherpa, Pasang Sherpa, Pemba Nuru Sherpa and Ang Tendi Sherpa also scaled Mt Kanchenjunga.

Michael Hamil, owner of ‘Climbing The Seven Summits’, reported from base camp that at least 30 climbers scaled both Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in 24 hours. “They topped out on Mt Everest around 7:00 am on May 18 and on Mt Lhotse at 6:00 am on the 19th. This is a massive accomplishment which required undaunted courage and determination,” he said.
