Thousands of children deprived of access to vaccination service

GAUSHALA: Thousands of children have been deprived of access to immunisation service in Mahottari district due to indefinite Madhes shutdown enforced by United Democratic Madhesi Front and border blockade.

There has been a dearth of medicines and vaccinations to administer the children in all the government hospitals operated in rural areas of the district including Mahottari Hospital, said doctors serving the health facilities.

Due to indefinite shutdown, general strike and continued blockade, the supply of vaccines and medicines including BCG, DPT, Polio Drops, Vitamin A and de-worming tablets has been obstructed, according to the Child Health Division at Mahottari District Health Office.

Around 110,000 children have been affected with the unavailability of vaccination and medicines which are essentially to be administered to the children of the district.

The Mahottari District Police said that the Madhes struggle waged by UDMF and Federal Madhesi Front since 103 days and blockade continued at the border since 63 days has caused shortage of vaccinatio0ns and medicines in Mahottari District Hospital Jaleswor, five Primary health posts, 68 health centres and a city clinic based in Jaleswor.
