Three killed in Sindhupalchok jeep plunge

MELAMCHI: As many as three persons died after the Bolero jeep they were travelling on fell below the road in Melamchi Municipality-9 of Sindhupalchok district on Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as jeep driver Suresh Tamang (35), and passengers Moti Adhikari (42) and Kamal Syangbo (12), all residents of Jyamire in Melamchi Municipality-9 of the district, according to Sub-inspector of Police Shri Ram KC at Melamchi.

According to police, the incident occurred when the cement laden jeep (Ba 18 Pa 4699) en route from Melamchi to Ratmate lost its control and plunged around 300 metres into the river at Jhilke Mod at 8:00 pm last night, killing all three on the spot.

Police after the preliminary investigation said that the overloaded vehicle might have failed to brake in time at the turning in Jyamire Pipaltar, causing the accident.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Similarly, a man was killed and four others injured after the bus they was travelling on met with an accident in Helambu Rural Municipality-1 of Sindhupalchok district on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as driver assistant Mahendra Bhujel of Bandegaon in Indrawati Rural Municipality-3 of the district.

The incident occurred when the Helambu Yatayat bus (Ba 2 Kha 6365) en route from Kathmandu to Timbu of Helambu met with an accident near Timbu Buspark at 10:00 pm yesterday, informed police.

The injured were rushed to the Dhulikhel Hospital where they have been undergoing treatment, according to police.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway and search is on for the driver who fled the incident site, said police.
