2 killed, 6 injured in Udayapur jeep accident

UDAYAPUR: Two persons were killed and six others were critically injured when a Bolero jeep plunged some 300 metres down the road at Gahunbari of Hardeni VDC-3 along the Siddhicharan Lokmarga in Udayapur district on Friday evening.

The Udayapur District Police Office has identified the deceased as Tanka Bahadur Basnet (34) and Bhim Kumari Raut (32) of Hardeni-1.

In the accident, Bishnu Bahadur Raut (38), Bhesh Raj Raut (30), Bimal Basnet (14), Nil Bahadur Karki (40), Resham Kumar Karki (46), and Alina Shrestha (17) have sustained serious injuries.

Raut duo were rushed to the Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College, Karki duo to the Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital and Alina to the Kathmandu-based Grande Hospital the same night.

The ill-fated Bolero jeep (Sa 1 Ja 409), en route to Gahunbari from Katari, fell off the road due to steering failure killing two passengers on the spot and injuring six others yesterday, Udayapur Police Chief Nar Bahadur KC said.

The vehicle driver, Sher Bahadu Khatri (32) of Hardeni VDC-3, however,  managed to save his life by jumping off the vehicle, police said.

The jeep was carrying nine people including the driver when the incident occurred.
