Two provinces to be one on common agendas

Dhangadi, February 22

Provincial authorities in Provinces 6 and 7 have agreed to move together in their march to prosperity by forging necessary cooperation on common agendas.

Discussions were held between the governments in Province 6 temporary headquarters Surkhet on issues such as energy development, determination of tax system, formation of development policies and rights of the provinces.

Finance Minister Jhapat Bohara of Province 7 held discussion with Province 6 Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, Cabinet ministers and Surkhet-based experts on areas of cooperation.

“As we are adjoining provinces and share similar geographical features, there was agreement to cooperate and coordinate with each other in matters related to our common problems, prospects and challenges,” said Bohara, adding that studies will be carried out on the possible ways for both provinces to reap benefit from the Karnali River that runs between the provinces.

According to Bohara, agreement was also reached between the two provinces on cooperation while codifying effective provincial laws. “Regarding a few issues, we will thrash out the issues in further rounds of talks and reach a conclusion,” he said.
