Two sisters attacked with acid at midnight

Rautahat, September 12

A group of unidentified people threw acid on two sisters while they were sleeping at their home in Chandrapur Municipality, Rautahat, last night. The girls have been critically injured .

According to Area Police Office Chandrapur, a group of unidentified people broke open the door and threw acid on Samjhana Das, 18, and her sister Sushmita Das, 15, at midnight. The acid has burned their faces.

The critically injured girls were sent to Model Hospital in Kirtipur, Kathmandu,  for treatment today morning.

Their father Jadolal Das said that the unidentified group had broken open the door and thrown acid on his two daughters at midnight. “I was sleeping at the pool house. My daughters and wife were sleeping at home. I woke up, but the group had fled after throwing acid on my daughters,” Jadolal stated.

Prior to the incident, Samjhana had gone out of the room to answer nature’s call. “Maybe the people opened the door and threw acid as Samjhana had not locked the door well from inside,” Jadolal said.

According to Jadolal, Samjhana has received deep bruise on her eyes due to the acid attack while Sushmita’s hair and face have burned.

Rautahat police SP Kedar Dhakal said Chandranigahapur Hospital had referred the two sisters to Kathmandu. Both the girls, however, can speak, said SP Dhakal.

A police team has been deployed from Area Police Office, Chandrapur, and investigation has been launched, according to SP Dhakal.  “A manhunt to nab the absconding is on,” police said.  The identities of culprits involved in the acid attack have not been established yet.
