Two trucks torched, 30 bandh enforcers arrested during strike

Cadres of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoists set two trucks ablaze during today’s general strike called by the party, while 30 bandh enforcers were arrested from different parts of the country.

Bandh organisers set a truck loaded with bamboo ablaze in Chandrapur of Rautahat along the East-West Highway. The truck was en route to Kathmandu from Chatara of Sunsari. The truck was fully damaged.

According to truck driver Balram Gautam, bandh enforcers poured petrol on the truck and set it on fire.

DSP Manoj Kumar Yadav at Area Police office Chandranigahapur said an investigation was under way.

In another incident, bandh organisers set another truck on fire in the forest of Kalidaha in Nalang VDC-6 of Dhading.

Police said bandh enforcers pulled the driver rout of the truck and set it on fire. The truck was headed for Dhadingbesi from Hetauda. The truck was completely damaged.

As many as 30 bandh organisers were held from different parts of the country. Three were held from Narayangadh. Police arrested as many as 27 Maoist cadres while the latter were trying to stop vehicles in Lekhnath and Pokhara.

Bandh enforcers held from Mahendrapul, Prithvi Chowk, and Sishuwa Chowk have been kept at District Police Office, Kaski.

CPN Maoist had called a general strike putting forth a charter of demands including end of blockade, guarantee of the rights of minorities.
