Udayapur Cement sacks 82 staffers

Uadayapur, August 18

Udayapur Cement Industry sacked 82 of its employees of different posts citing incompetence.

Administration Department head of UCI Ram Bahadur GC said the staffers were fired as they failed to discharge their duties. He said the management had repeatedly warned them against their below-par performance.

“Those staffers who never marked their attendance, who never reported to duty regularly and who consumed alcohol while in duty have been fired,” GC said.

Among the sacked employees are drivers, officers and engineers.

UCI general manager Surendra Paudel said the employees were removed as per the prevailing Act. He claimed that the staffers were relieved of their duties also after consulting with trade unions and employees’ welfare associations. He further said those unwilling were forced to resign.

Chakra Bahadur Karki, a unionist said it was a positive move for UCI to remove its irresponsible staff members. “It has more irresponsible employees still working there and they should be removed, too”, Karki said.

UCI was established in financial assistance of Japan. Due to negligence on the part of UCI employees, the financial condition of UCI has been deteriorating in recent times.
