Unity among democratic forces a must: Rana

Pokhara, June 12

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) Chair Pashupati Shamsher Rana today said democratic forces in the country had no choice but to unite.

Talking to journalists in Pokhara, Rana said his party had formed a committee, comprising party leaders Dipak Bohora, Bikram Pandey, Sunil Thapa and Thakur Prasad Panth, to consider unification among other party/parties sharing similar ideology.

“The Leftist forces are united and they command two-thirds majority in the Parliament. Now, democratic forces should unite to stand against them in the next polls,” Rana stated.

Rana accused the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of having a totalitarian mindset. “By raising the issue of directly-elected presidential system they are going against the sentiment of the statute,” he said. He stressed  the need for democratic parties to unite to defend democracy and the rule of law.

Rana said the unification between the former CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre, which led to the formation of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was being tested. He said their unity might fall apart in a matter of few years.
