‘We’ll do everything it takes to curb crime’

Chitwan, April 26

Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal today pledged not to leave any stone unturned in curbing crime in the country.

Speaking to mediapersons at District Police Office, Chitwan, IGP Khanal said the primary role of the police force was preventing crime, protecting people and property, and enforcing the law to maintain peace and order in society.

Noting that a few dishonest personnel were sabotaging the image of the police, the IGP said such people wouldn’t be entertained anymore by the police administration. “Those security personnel who themselves commit crime instead of curbing it are termites and we should get rid of them,” said IGP Khanal.

Stating that decency and discipline ought to be the traits of a police officer, Khanal said he would maintain a reward and punishment system in the organisation.

IGP Khanal noted that despite the low strength of Nepal Police personnel, they were trying their best to maintain law and order, besides curbing crime. He stressed the need to develop new strategies to curb criminal activities across the country.

Stating that his organisation would not compromise on peace and security, the IGP said police offices would be set up in all provinces after the federal police act comes into effect.
