BARA: A powerful windstorm on Sunday evening damaged much of Mission Academy school-building situated in Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-18. The windstorm not only caused the fall of school’s compound wall, it also blew off the tin-roof sheets of the classes, leading to a loss of around Rs 700,000 according to the school’s proprietor Gorey Lama.

The windstorm-led infrastructural damage has affected the educational activities, Lama added.

“The school will remain closed for at least three days. However, we have already begun repair work in a bid to resume classes at the earliest possible," the school proprietor said. There are currently 700 students enrolled in the school.

The storm also damaged house roofs of Amrit Ale Magar and Roshan Ale Magar, residents of Badharwa in the same ward. A hailstorm that accompanied the strong windstorm had given the locals a scare.

Likewise, power supply in Manaharwa was disrupted after trees fell on electricity lines during the storm. Nepal Electricity Authority’s district Foreman Vicky Mahato said that power supply has been obstructed in many rural areas of the sub-metropolitan city. A team has already been deployed for repair works and it is expected that power will be restored Monday evening.

Spokesperson of Bara District Police Office, DSP Bhuwaneshwar Shah said that despite multiple infrastructural damages, the windstorm did not cause any human casualty.
