Wood smugglers taking advantage of Tarai protests

It is learnt that with the help of FCC staffers, the smugglers are smuggling the woods

RAUTAHAT: Illegal smuggling of woods has increased in Rautahat, of late, taking advantage of the ongoing strike in Tarai districts.

As the security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace during the ongoing strike called by United Democratic Madhesi Front, wood smugglers of the Rautahat district are being active again.

District Police Office of Rautahat informed that a police team deployed from Harinagar Police Post acted on a tip-off and impounded a tractor laden with Sal trees recently.

But, owing to obstruction from local people, smugglers and office bearers of the Forest Consumer Committee (FCC), police were unable to bring the seized woods.

It is learnt that with the help of FCC staffers, the smugglers are smuggling the woods.

Chief Forest Officer, Shree Bhagawan Gupta, also agreed that no one can smuggle the wood without the consent of the FCC staffers, adding, the Office would take strong actions against the wrong doers.
