Yadav scoffs at statute amendment bill

Birgunj, January 5

Chairperson of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, a constituent of United Democratic Madhesi Front, Upendra Yadav today condemned the statute amendment bill tabled in the Parliament, saying it wouldn’t address the demands of Madhes agitation.

“I don’t believe the issues that couldn’t be resolved through talks with top political leaders of the major parties will be settled by forming a task force as our agenda is change in state demarcation,” said Yadav, speaking at a press conference organised here today.

“The fact is that the major parties and the government are pretending to hold talks only to keep us engaged. Although we realise this fact, we’re still cooperating to find a solution to the present crisis. However, the government’s current tactic won’t stop out agitation,” he added.

Accusing the government of being ostentatious instead of addressing the ongoing unrest, Yadav likened the government to the erstwhile Panchayat system. “After imposing the statute on the people the government is now trying to force the amendment too and that is intolerable. The government better declare the constitution dead,” he opined.

Also calling the incumbent government the most inefficient in the country’s history, he alleged that the government was propped by the mafia.

On the recent murder of a police officer during demonstration in Saptari, he urged the prime minister to take stern action against the persons involved.
