Facebook data scandal

Mark Zuckerberg as the CEO of Facebook and allied groups has made unprecedented amount of money and is known to be a dedicated and caring family man.

Yet while it comes to data fraud stemming from his own organisation; and numerous cases of serious incidences of Facebook and other social media platforms being used in communal brain washing, criminal, stalking and espionage activities, character assassinations, personal humiliations, disrespectful and hateful comments directed towards specific nations, communities and individuals; very little has been done by this superbly intelligent ‘so-called’ family man. Zuckerberg only cares for his business profits and has never shown or taken any responsibility for illegal, illogical, dangerous and negative use of his social media platform.

Now as the data fraud heat is burning his company, he has hidden behind a veil of silence and will certainly talk about his innocence and non-involvement with the process though he issued an apology on Sunday after much criticism in Britain and USA. While Facebook has made this world a global village, it has also damaged millions of people and their lives and livelihoods.

With the data fraud with his dedicated customers, Zuckerberg needs to be brought to justice and tried for his alleged role in illegally sharing customer information with other vendors with economic and political interests with serious allegations like data theft and data manipulation.

This is a crime. Facebook compromised security, dignity and personal information of millions of people who trusted Zuckerberg as an honest businessman and a dedicated and responsible family man. We are all equal in this world; but some are more equal than others!

Sophia

In the first public address in Nepal by the humanoid robot Sophia said countries like Nepal can achieve development goals at a faster rate with the help of technology. It is undeniable that technology is a short-cut to rapid development which we all agree to, and all express commitment to work towards this goal.

Today every sector runs information and communication technology, be it in the education, health, transportation or in service sectors. ICT use means cutting down time and distance required for the work which results in efficiency. Sophia said access to ICT can eliminate poverty and gender discrimination. If people know how to use ICT products they can harness knowledge, acquire skills, get jobs and improve the level of confidence.

ICT is not only about connection, it can open so many avenues of opportunities, innovations and help set up start-up businesses as well. Different government institutions are gradually adapting to technological advancement even in Nepal. Now it is time to integrate all those into one for the benefit of the country’s economy.
