TOPICS: Technology dilemma

Demands of modern lifestyle and rapid growth in technology have caused lives to shift form manual to virtual.

Studying, working, socializing, all have become computer intensive. There is almost no one who isn’t familiar with the use of mobile phones or the internet. Whether this is a sign of progress or trouble is yet to be contemplated.

Whatever it may result in, something which is sure is that change is happening and we can never go back to how things were before. Maybe this is the beauty of change or maybe it is a backdrop of progress.

Sometimes I wonder how lives would have been without all the technological fuss.

Of course those are times when I have no access to Wi-Fi connections.

So, I sit back and think about life without my phone or laptop. I imagine whether things would be simpler or messier, whether life would be fun or monotonous, and the funniest part is this thought never seems to find a definite conclusion.

What I inferred from this is that maybe I am trying to find a middle ground, be in touch with technology and still maintain that simple life I would have without it which, I know, is practically impossible.

But I would definitely love for scientists to maybe give this thought a shape.

It is also not that I don’t favor change. Life has become easier with technology, especially in communication and learning. There are endless opportunities of learning with technology being your mate.

You can have millions of friends and contacts over the internet. Your dilemma is not just yours anymore, just click a share button and it becomes a concern to all your friends.

There is no problem whose solution isn’t on Google already. People live their lives on the internet. People have risen to fame because of it, and the best part is that with one good idea one could even become a millionaire.

All this certainly makes you want to be best friends with technology. But before jumping to a rigid conclusion, we might as well look into the dark side of it, about how dependent we have become on it.

The bad news is this dependency is only going to increase over time. With every new invention that comes about, we will become more and more reliant. On one side it is all flowers and butterflies and on the other it is dark and thorny.

So, we better figure out a way to get past this technology dilemma.
