KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police on Monday arrested Bal Bahadur Rana(65) for evading taxes. Rana had been absconding after the Kathmandu District Court, on June 6, 2011, imposed on him a fine of Rs 8,52,595. Rana’s Lumbini Overseas Concerns P Ltd had evaded tax by tampering with records to show it had sent only a small number of workers to South Korea for employment.
Held with rhino horn
KATHMANDU: A police team from the Central Investigation Bureau nabbed two people from Nagal on Monday with a rhino horn. Police said they arrested Krishan Bahadur Khadka (34) of Jhyaku-7, Dolakha, and Kamala Shakya (48) of Kathmadu-28 with a rhino horn weighing 763 gramme. According to the CIB, the horn can fetch Rs 3.1 million in the black market. A preliminary investigation has found that Shakya had hidden the horn in his room and made an agreement with Khadka to give him a cut if he manages to sell it. Police have sent Khadka and Shakya to the Kathmandu District Forest Office for a further investigation into the case.
Caught with drugs
KATHMANDU: Police on Monday arrested Raju Shahi(21) alias Ranju of Lagan from KMC-15 with controlled drugs, including 20 ampuls of Diazepam and Iibuprofen. An investigation is under way, police said.
Woman found dead
KATHMANDU: Police on Monday recovered the body of Saraswati Basnet(21) at her rented room in Kagateni Chowk, Kathmandu. Tied with a shwal, the woman’s body was hanging from a ceiling fan, police informed.
