BP hospital staff caught unawares

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE

DHARAN: A patient’s kin today captured the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences health workers unawares – in their sleep – in his cell phone camera this morning.

Soon after this incident, a scuffle broke out between the hospital security guards and the patient’s kin when the guards tried to snatch a mobile phone from a patient’s kin.

The clash subsided after police detained Govind Basnet, kin of a patient Mishra Basnet of Singiya VDC, Sunsari, who was being treated at the ICU ward of the hospital. Mishra’s kin found the health workers sleeping in their room when they had reached them for help at about 3 am.

“No one is allowed to stay inside the ICU ward, but when we did not get any information about our patient for long we entered the ward and there we saw the health workers in deep sleep while the saline water had run out on our patient,” said Mishra’s husband Govinda. He said it was extreme negligence on the part of the health workers to sleep leaving the patients unattended.

Meanwhile, while BPKIHS Vice-chancellor BP Das disavowed the incident, its director Arbinda Sinha and spokesperson Shyam Lamsal could not be contacted.
