KATHMANDU: Baikuntha Maskey is Nepal’s first cinematographer and television journalist. Maskey, currently a television journalist with Reuters TV, is also the Chairman of Graftii Nepal that has taken up responsibility to upgrade Nepali cinema. He plans to conduct various workshops under Graftii Nepal and work towards the betterment of Nepali cinema in the days ahead. Awarded with various awards and accolades, Maskey shares the memories of his college days

I did my Diploma in Cinematography from Film Institute of India (now Film and TV Institute of India) in 1966.
COURSES STUDIED
I studied Photography, Editing, Script Writing, Sound Orientation, Cinematography and more.

It was very thrilling and

It was very innovative and
different from others. I used to think that students from
FTII were different and separate from others like engineers
and doctors. And people
looked at our lifestyle in
an interesting way.
LASTING MEMORIES
There was a tree named wisdom tree at our college ground. Whenever we used to be free and had to think about something creatively and intellectually, we used to sit under that tree and work to sort out our
problems.
LESSON LEARNT
If you work consistently on whatever you need and do it with self-discipline, then lots of things can be achieved.

Teamwork helps you to make things easy and learn from others. Always believe in dignity of labour and be helpful as well. Moreover, hard work and consistency in work with one’s own belief can help you achieve anything in life.
HOW TO ACE IN COLLEGE
You should enjoy your life. At the same time you should take up your studies in a disciplined way which will automatically create an environment to enjoy life.
