KATHMANDU: Nepal champion Bikash Shrestha of Bhojpur, Dipesh Dhami and Ratna Jit Tamang of Nepal APF Club and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of Nepal Police Club (NPC) entered the men’s singles semi-finals of the ninth Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Badminton Tournament today.
Bikash defeated Indra Mahata of APF 21-14, 21-11, Dipesh saw off Bishnu Katuwal of NPC 21-15, 21-20, Sajan edged Pankaj Chand of APF and Ratna Jit saw off fellow clubmate Bishal Pradhan 21-17, 21-18.
In the women’s singles quarter-finals, Nangsal Devi Tamang of APF routed Durga Bhandari of Kailali 21-14, 21-5, Sara Devi Tamang of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) beat Amita Giri of Jhapa 21-13, 21-11, APF’s Shikshya Shrestha beat clubmate Samjhana Khaling 21-19, 20-22 (retired hurt) and Sabina Panthi trounced Sulochana Bhaktaraj 21-8, 21-7.
Dipesh also reached U-17 boys singles semis along with Suman Limbu, Sawan Shrestha and Santosh Khadka of Sunsari. Dipesh saw off NPC player Aashish Thapaliya 21-16, 21-11, Suman sneaked past Nir Bikram Devkota of Kathmandu 21-19, 21-17, Sawan cruised past Pranish Thakuri of Jhapa 21-12, 21-11 and Santosh dispatched Sachin Dangol of Lalitpur 21-14, 21-18.
Shikshya also made it to the U-17 girls’ singles last four with Megha Chand of Kanchanpur, Shreya Pradhan of TAC and Hem Khyama Rai of Kanchanpur. Megha beat Kesika Gurung of Jhapa 21-16, 21-16, Shreya trounced Sharmila Shrestha of Kailali 21-4, 21-3, Hem Kyama eased to a 21-14, 21-13 victory over Ganga Bista of Kanchanpur and Shikshya earned a walkover victory.
Likewise, making it to the men’s doubles last four were the pair of Bishal/Ratna Jit and Indra/Pankaj, Aakash Chhantyal/Raju Bajracharya and Bimal Shrestha/Suraj Maharjan of Lalitpur.
In the women’s section, Sujana Shrestha/Bina Tulachan and Sabina/Samjhana and Puja Shrestha/Nangshal of APF and TAC duo of Sara Devi/Shreya made it to the last four.
Also, the pair of Ratna/Nangsal and Puja/Indra of APF, Kabita Karki/Bimal Shrestha of Lalitpur and Bina Tulachan/Ganesh Chand of NPC cruised into the mixed doubles last four matches.
Meanwhile, Kumar Adhikari of Kathmandu and Jitendra Pariyar of Lalitpur set the men’s singles championship match of the fifth APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. Kumar hammered Kamal Bhandari of NPC 6-3, 6-0, while Jitendra beat Milan Rokaya of Lalitpur with the same scorelines.
Likewise, Malika Rana of Lalitpur beat her sister Mahika 6-4, 6-3 and Ganga Sharma of Pokhara defeated Bibhuti Karki of Lalitpur 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to set women’s singles championship date. APF duo of Durja Kumar Rai/Durga Bahadur Kunwar claimed the Inter-governmental Service category title defeating the TAC pair of Pradip Shah/Amulya Singh 6-3, 6-4.
Pradip and Durga will vie for the singles title of the same category. Pradip outplayed fellow clubmate Sijar Gurung 6-0, 6-0, while Durga earned a walkover win from colleague Durja. Lalitpur are assured of the mixed doubles gold medal with the pair of Rajesh Chhetry/Mayanka Rana and Sri Ram Magar/Malika Rana of the district making it to the championship match.
