BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress, Morang Constituency 1 on Thursday demanded formation of Birat state comprising Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts.
Organising a press conference in Morang’s Dyniya, Morang Constituency 1, President Nageshwor Prasad Singh said a state should be formed without dividing Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari on the basis of geography and history.
He said it would be good to bring the three districts under a separate state as 40 lakh population resided here with different ethnicities and religions. He even said it was impossible to derive the names of states on the basis of ethnicity as there were 118 ethnic groups in the country. He said the state could be named Birat State after Birat King’s palace.
