CJ's appeal to journalists

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi has asked journalists to help ensure judicial independence. Speaking at a tea reception organised by the Constitutional and Judicial Journalists’ Forum on the eve of the Nepali New Year 2069 BS today, Regmi said judiciary and journalism are inter-related.

On the occasion, he feted newly elected office bearers of the forum, including Yam Birahi (President), Kumar Bibekananda Mishra (Vice President ), Dilli Acharya (General Secretary), Ram Bahadur Rawal ( Secretary) and Dinesh Pandey (Treasurer). Extending New Year greetings, Prem Bahadur Khadka, president of the Nepal Bar Association, stressed that journalists should always maintain ‘fairness’ while disseminating news. NBA former president Shambhu Thapa said “Democracy sans independent judiciary holds no meaning” and urged journalists to do their job in a balanced way. Forum President Birahi chaired the programme.
