Chakkajam in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: Locals on Thursday staged a two-hour chakkajam to protest the pressure from local leaders to shift a bridge building project across the Bagmati river near Madhopur VDC to another place. Demand that the bridge be built in the same place, locals of Madhopur, Mithuwawa, Bishunpurwa Manpur, Sakhuwawa and other 10 VDCs staged chakkajam from 11am to 1pm at Sakhuwawa Chowk along the Gaur-Chandranigahapur road. The government had decided to build the bridge across the Bagmati river near Madhopur VDC, but lawmakers from Constituency No 4 and 6 and other leaders are trying to shift the bridge location to Samanpur, said Om Prakash Jha of Mithuwawa.
