District court moved against attackers

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office has moved the Kathmandu District Court, seeking up to 12-year jail term against eight people, who had brutally attacked Sunita Pudasaini of Gothatar on the charge of practising witchcraft on March 24.

Bharat Lamsal, KDC registrar, informed that the prosecutor has sought jail term against Tara Dahal, Gyanendra Dahal, Dilip Kumar Timalsina, Bishnu Hari Timalsina, Bal Kumari Timalsina, Sita Timalsina, Nirmala Timalsina and Nama Raj Timalsina for attacking Sunita with an intention to kill her.

As per Clause 15 of the Homicide Chapter of Muluki Ain, 1963, a murder accused faces five to 12 years of jail term if his crime is proven.

The relatives had attacked Sunita after a witch doctor accused her of practising witchcraft against them and causing illnesses.

Citing the accounts of witnesses Ratna Dahal, Bhuwaneshwri Pokhrel and Diya Ghimire Dahal, the prosecutor claimed that the perpetrators had stabbed Sunita in her eyes and other sensitive organs in a bid to kill her. The attackers had stabbed and injured Khum Kumari Dahal as well.
