KATHMANDU: Tension flared up in Mahadevsthan Gurjudhara as a local died after a speeding microbus hit him in the area.
The microbus (Ba 3 Kha 1032) was en route to Tanahun when it knocked down 55-year-old Rana Bahadur Rana at around 9.30 am. Police said doctors at the Armed Police Force Hospital in Balambu pronounced Rana dead upon his admission to the health facility.
Local residents blocked the road in protest demanding action against the microbus driver and compensation for the bereaved family. Police said they had to use ‘moderate force’ to disperse the demonstrators and clear the Ring Road for a smooth flow of traffic that came to a halt for around two hours due to the protest.
Two demonstrators, injured in a clash with the police, have been admitted to Samaj Hospital in Dhungeadda for treatment. Police said they have suffered minor injuries.
Police have impounded the microbus and arrested the driver.
