Fighters not happy over integration

SURYAMANI GAUTAM

SURKHET: Manraj Devkota, section commander at Surkhet-based PLA Sixth Division, was once longing to join Nepali Army through the integration process. He, however, chose for voluntary retirement in the second phase of regrouping process saying that party leadership had betrayed them in the name of integration.

Devkota said that he had opted for voluntary retirement thinking that he would be humiliated by Nepali Army after the integration process was over. He joined the Maoist’s insurgency some nine years ago.

“Our contribution to the party and country went in vain after the party leadership abandoned its stance in negotiation with other parties,” Devkota said adding, “Leaders got the power because of us, but they have forgotten us completely.”

Sub-commander Amar Khadka also of the Sixth Division said that he had chosen for voluntary retirement as the integration process was confusing.

A resident of Dailekh’s Mehelatoli, Khadka, said that he refrained from joining the Nepali Army as there was no chance of getting the rank as per his educational qualification.
