Last rites of Maoist cadre takes place

BIRATNAGAR: Last rites of the Unified CPN-Maoist cadre Amar Dhimal of Rajghat, Morang, who died on Friday while undergoing treatment in India’s Silguri-based Paramount Hospital were carried out today.

Amar was injured during a clash with a group led by the Nepali Congress Morang Constituency Number 9 president Khadga Phago on May 20.

According to Maoist sources, Amar’s body was brought yesterday night and was handed over to his family members.

Amar had sustained serious injuries in his head and body and was referred to India from the Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital as his treatment was not possible here. He was survived by a daughter, son and wife.

Another Maoist cadre Arun Magar (22) of Itahara who was also injured in the clash died even as he was treated in Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital on Friday, while Maoist affiliated Public Volunteers Bureau Committee’s Urlabari Area Committee senior vice-chairperson Rajeev Limbu is undergoing treatment in Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health and Science. Amar and Arun were members of the same committee.

Maoist Morang Sub-incharge Ganesh Upreti said that Amar’s funeral procession was performed before performing final rites. Participants of the procession demanded stern action against the guilty and sought justice for the victim’s family. The last rites were carried out on the banks of the Bakraha River.

A chargesheet has been filed against Phago along Sanam Lama, Sambehang Limbu, Durga Phago, Subash Tamang, Kamal Singh Phago, Gagan Rai, Prabin Rai, Ram Kumar Yadav among others involved in the incident.

Police have held NC Morang Constituency Number 9 president Phago. Search is on for others, informed police.
