Launch judicial probe into Jhapa journo's murder: FNJ

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged the government to launch a judicial investigation into the murder of Jhapa-based journalist Yadav Poudel after a report of the High Level Media Mission formed under FNJ president Shiva Gaule pointed that the killing may have something to do with the journalist’s works.

The report made public today states that Poudel, Jhapa district correspondent for Avenues TV and Rajdhani daily, had written about flesh trade in the Phewa Taal Hotel, a venture of Phool Maya Karki aka Manju Dhakal, who, according to police, had killed Poudel together with her husband Somnath Dhakal and Yuvaraj Giri.

After flesh trade reports and police raids at the hotel, Dhakal and her husband opened Hotel Purbanchal and Guesthouse.

The report has urged authorities to dig deeper into the murder to ascertain the truth, though a police report said Giri had pushed Poudel off Purbanchal’s terrace. It expressed deep concern about the delay in the investigation process on the part of the government and demanded relief for the bereaved family. On April 5, a day after police found Poudel’s body in front of the hotel, the government decided to conduct a judicial probe into Poudel’s murder and provide Rs 1 million to his family.
