NEPALGUNJ: Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today expressed hope that Constituent Assembly would be able to deliver the new constitution within its extended term. “Momentous tasks of peace and statute-making will be completed within the set deadline,” Dahal told media persons at Nepalgunj airport.
Noting that his party had not renounced the agenda of federalism, Dahal pledged that he would strive to promulgate the new statute and conclude the peace process at any rate. He also pledged to keep his party intact.
Standing Committee member Dev Gurung close to hardliner Mohan Baidhya was also present at the training programme in Chisapani attended by party chairman.
Most the Baidhya supporters had boycotted the training session. M
aoist activists close to Baidhya said that they had boycotted the programme as the training session was of Prachanda faction’s and when intra-party rift was at its peak.
Politburo member and Tharuwan Rajya committee in-charge Haribhakta Kandel, district leader IP Kharel and Banke CA member Ashok Rokaya refrained from attending the function. “We boycotted the programme as it was of the Prachanda faction’s separate programme,” Kandel said. Gurung’s participation has created confusion among the hardliner cadres and leaders, he added.
Kandel said that they could not organise the party’s programme when the establishment was holding its separate programme in different parts of the country. He claimed that Gurung must have been compelled to attend at the programme.
Giving details on Gurung’s attendance in Dahal’s meeting, Kandel said today’s programme was scheduled two months ago.
Maybe it was then decided to invite Gurung as chief guest. He frowned on the leaders of violating the agreement by making party chairman as chief guest.
Banke sub-in-charge close to hardliner IP Kharel said that Mohan Baidhya supporters had reached Chisapani due to Gurung’s arrival, but later they had boycotted the programme.
