SURKHET: Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist's Students Union Surkhet Coordinator Bishma Kumar Shahi was injured after students of the rival Unified CPN-Maoist beat him black and blue at the Surkhet Campus Sikshya on Friday.
Shahi, who later underwent a treatment, has received four stitches on his head. "I had gone to expand our organisation at the campus, but when I was coming out of the campus following a meeting, All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary) district coordinator Ajit Woudel and others beat me up," said the Shahi.
He went on to add that the rival party cadres had carried out the attack out of desperation after a large number of supporters of their party defected to the CPN-M.
The CPN-M Surkhet Secretary Thammar Bahadur Bista also termed the assault as an act perpetrated out of frustration.
In a statement, the ANNISU-R Bheri-Karnali State Committee coordinator Khem Bahadur Singh, however, has denied the allegation. "Students had retaliated after Shahi himself took to fisticuffs first," he said. Meanwhile, police have arrested Woudel for manhandling Shahi.
