KATHMANDU: Tashi Dong (Tshiring) won the title of the CG Open here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
The former national footballer and skipper of Manang Marshyangdi Club accumulated a total of 42 points to lift the trophy. Tashi, who turned to golf after leading the ‘A’ division outfit to several titles, is already a famous name in the golfing fraternity.
Tashi, a five-handicap amateur golfer, also claimed the most birdies award on count back with three birdies.
Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format over 18 holes, Joo Sik Choi came second with 38 points, while Suryansh Chaudhary finished third with 37 points in the main category.
Ang Tshiring Sherpa bagged the best gross award with 37 points. Arati Rana claimed the women’s section trophy with 33 points, while Kesang Lama was runner-up with 31 points. Lt Gen KNS Thapa bagged the senior section title with 34 points, whereas Sandesh Khanal claimed his maiden trophy in junior section with 38 points.
Other winners of the tournament — sponsored by Chaudhary Group — included Vijay Einhaus Shrestha (longest drive) and Kiran Dangal (closest to the pin). A total of 88 golfers including six women and five junior players took part in the tournament.
Managing Director of Chaudhary Group Nirvana Chaudhary and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire gave away prizes to the winners.
