Singhulimadhi, May 2
A team lead by the Chief District Officer today arrested Sindhuli Lalan Kumar Singh, an overseer at the District Education Office, on charges of demanding bribe from service seekers.
According to the acting CDO Bimal Prasad Pokharel, a team headed by him arrested Singh on charges of demanding Rs 10,000 as bribe from a school for constructing a toilet. After his arrest, Singh was brought to the administration office.
Acting CDO Pokharel said, “We have already recorded a statement from him. However, we could not hand over Singh to the police due to some legal formalities as the CDO is out of the district now.”
According to Pokharel, Singh was allegedly demanding Rs 10,000 bribe for the constructing of a toilet in a primary school located at Mahadevsthan VDC. “Local leaders have informed the administration that Singh has been demanding bribes to do favours. We have detained him on the same basis.”
Pokharel said that the team would probe into the case in detail. However, overseer Singh denied the charges leveled against him. “I have not demanded even a rupee from anybody. Leaders of political parties have been trying to trap me in the case,” he added.
Narayan Chaulagain, principal, Terse Sadkule Primary School, Ranichuri, said technicians usually ask 10 per cent of the budget allotted for the construction under the school area reform programme. “So I gave Rs 10,000 to the technician in the first phase and Rs 5,000 later. Otherwise the technician would create problem in releasing money allocated for the project.”
