Timber smuggling rampant in Doti

DIPAYAL: Tree felling has become rampant at Janakalyan Community Forest in Doti in collusion with the officials of community forest, sources said today.

Of late, the process of logging has been continuing swiftly along the road side at the Janakalyaan Community Forest. Trees have been felled at various places.

Janakalyan Community Forest Consumers’ Committee chairman Uttam Shahi conceded that they had given the permission to cut some teak trees due to the pressure from the consumers. District Forest Office Doti had banned cutting down trees two years ago.

Doti District Forest Officer Jaymangal Prasad said the office will investigate into the blatant felling of trees. He said a team of forest technicians was deployed at the community forest today.
