ANFA to install Shrestha’s bust

LALITPUR, June 28

The executive meeting of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) today decided to install acting president late Lalit Krishna Shrestha’s bust and help his family to cover the education expenses of the two children.

The meeting, held for the first time since the demise of Shrestha on June 12, has decided to provide Rs 50,000 per month until the children — six-year-old twins Shreetika and Shreyash — complete their grade 12 education. The amount will be provided to the Shrestha family from this month. ANFA had earlier decided not to hold any football related activities for 13 days to honour its acting President Shrestha.

ANFA meeting also decided to install bust structure of Shrestha inside the hall to be built under the parapet of ANFA Academy grounds. The 49-year-old Shrestha, who was also the spokesperson of ANFA and President of Three Star Club, was electrocuted while trying to fix a problem at his under-construction house in Bhainsepati on June 12.

The meeting, chaired by President Ganesh Thapa after he assumed the office on Thursday following the completion of the four-month out-of-football period on the request of FIFA Ethics Committee, passed the condolence motion of Shrestha.

Apart from covering the education expenses, the ANFA also decided to consult Shrestha’s family members for further assistance and help Shrestha’s widow, Nilu Shrestha to find a job. The ANFA meeting also decided to request national and international stakeholders for more financial assistance to Shrestha’s family.

The football governing body will also organise Under-16 Championship every year in memory of Shrestha, who was also the in-charge of the ANFA Academy. The final of the tournament will be held on June 12, to mark the death anniversary of Shrestha, said ANFA.

The meeting also decided to hold the Annual General Meeting, which has been postponed for several times because of the long-standing controversy in the ANFA.
