Kathmandu, December 17

Nepal Motor Sports Club, under the aegis of Nepal Automobile Sports Association and Kathmandu District Sports Development Committee, is organising the first Volkswagen National Auto Gymkhana Championship at the Himalayan Motor Land in Dhulikhel on December 30.

A total of 64 participants will take part in the championship, informed NMSC Secretary Amar Jyoti Ranjit at a press meet here today. “We have prepared a 150-feet long track and the participants will have to drive through without any mistake,” Ranjit added. “We will give the maps to all the drivers and they will need to memorise the track as they are not allowed to see it while driving,” he added.

After the first round, top 16 drivers will make it to the second round and only eight riders will secure their places in the finals. “At the end the driver with maximum points will win the championship,” said Ranjit. The champion driver will get a chance to take part in the Asian Auto Gymkhana Championship to be held in Indonesia next year.

Pooja International Nepal Pvt Ltd, the authorised dealer of Volkswagen in Nepal, is the main sponsor of the tournament and they will provide the organisers with Rs 1.5 million to organise the championship. Pooja International Chief Executive Officer Bibek Bijukchhe said they were impressed with the unique concept of the event and they agreed to sponsor the championship.
