Regmi, Shrestha, Yadav in quarter-finals

Azaa Regmi, Prakriti Shrestha and Sneha Yadav advanced to the U-14 girls’ singles quarter-finals of the 15th Jayakar Memorial National Junior Tennis Tournament here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex courts today.

In the opening day matches, Regmi defeated Aisha Dolker 6-4, 6-4, Shrestha beat Sirista Rai 6-4, 6-3 and Yadav outplayed Nimisha Dhakal 6-1, 6-3 to make it to the last eight.

In boys’ section, Kubehang Chemjong, Aryan Giri, Aadit Agrawal and Saroj Tamang advanced to the quarter-finals. Chemjong bagged a double bagel against Ayush Gurung, while Giri outplayed Safal Shrestha 6-1, 6-1. Likewise, Agrawal beat Sakshyat Shahi 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, and Tamang registered a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Pranav Manandhar.

Likewise, Eva Adhikari and Utsha Lama made it to the U-10 girls’ singles semi-finals. Adhikari bagged a double bagel against Nala J Maskey, while Lama beat Adya Paudel 6-2, 6-4.

In the U-9 boys’ singles category, Darsheel Shrestha and Boris Adhikari entered the quarter-finals. Shrestha defeated Saswosat Bajracharya 4-0, 4-0, while Adhikari beat Harsit Pant 4-0, 4-1. In girls’ section, Jeny Khadka outplayed Samragyee Lama 4-0, 4-0 and advanced to the last eight.

In girls’ doubles section, the pairs of Prerana Koirala/Subhangee Laxmi Shah, Isha Shree Shah/Sharvani Shrestha, and Bijisha Shrestha/Abhilasha Bista made it to the semi-finals. The duo of Koirala/Shah defeated Sirista Rai/Azaa Regmi 6-1, 6-0, while Shah-Shrestha pair beat Prakriti Shrestha/Sneha Yadav 6-1/6-1. And the duo of Shrestha/Bista registered a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Anne Mathema/Catherine Mathema.

A total of 59 players — 32 in boys’ and 27 in girls’ sections — are taking part in the six-day tournament organised by Man Jayakar Tennis Academy. The tournament, which features four events, carries a total cash purse of Rs 248,000.

Earlier, All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association President Jyoti Rana inaugurated the tournament.
