Central, Mid-western share points

Kathmandu, May 30

Central Development Region shared points with Mid-western Development Region after their Group A match of the first Prime Minister Cup One-day National Men’s Cricket Tournament was washed out due to rain today.

Put into bat first at the Tribhuvan University Stadium, Mid-west were bowled out for 123 runs in 43.2 overs. The match was called off after rain stopped the play in the second innings at a time when Central were 23-1 in 4.2 overs. Phupendra Thapa (10) and Sonu Tamang (11) were at the crease after Hari Shankar Shah was stumped for a duck by Sushant Thapa off Siddhant Raj Shahi’s last ball of the first over. Tamang hit one each four and six, while Thapa cracked a six.

The umpires called off the match following the incessant rain and both the teams were forced share one point each. After the day’s match, Nepal APF Club, who defeated Western on Monday, are leading the group with two points, ahead of Central and Mid-west.

Earlier, Mid-west had a disastrous start as they were reduced to 23-4 inside 12 overs. But Rajbir Singh — who top scored with 63 off 95 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six — added 41 runs for the fifth wicket with Pranit Thapa Magar (20). Singh then shared a 28-run partnership with Amar Singh Routela (10) for the sixth wicket to revive the innings.

However, Mid-west were dismissed for a low total as they kept on losing wickets following the dismissal of Routel, who was caught by Bhupendra Thapa off Kishore Mahato in the 36th over with 92 runs on the board. Kishore Thapa was pick of the Central bowlers as he bagged 4-29, while Harishankar Shah took two wickets. Rashid Khan and Ramsaad Alam claimed one wicket apiece.

On Wednesday, Central will play against Western in Group A match.
