Chaudhary stars as APF triumph

Kathmandu, November 19

Amrit Chaudhary saved two spot kicks as Nepal APF Club defeated CMG Club Sankata 4-2 in tiebreaker and advanced to the quarter-finals of the third Chandragiri Mayor Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Naikap grounds today.

The match was decided on penalties after the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 in the regulation period. Santosh Nepali put APF ahead in the 32nd minute after Sankata defenders failed to clear Sudip Shikhrakar’s cross inside the penalty box.

Sankata levelled the scores in the injury time of the match when skipper Amit Tamang found the back of the nets.

In tie-breaker, Sudip Shikhrakar, Nabin Lama, Ashish Lama and Rajiv Lopchan converted from the spot for the departmental side. Sankata skipper Amit Tamang and Kshitiz Raj GT scored for the team, while APF goalkeeper Chaudhary denied Massauke Pierre and Roman Limbu.

Chaudhary was named the man of the match for his heroics and he received Rs 5,000.

APF will now face Saraswoti Youth Club for a place in the last four on Saturday.

On Thursday, Brigade Boys Club will face Tribhuvan Army Club in the first quarter-final match.

A total of 12 teams are taking part in the tournament organised by Deepshikha Youth Group.

Top two teams will earn Rs 650,000 and Rs 350,000 respectively, while best player of the tournament and the highest scorer will get Rs 30,000 each.
