Chauraha thrash United to produce second win in DPL

KATHMANDU: Dhangadhi Team Chauraha have produced their second win in the Dhangadhi Premier League Twenty20 Cricket Tournament as they thrashed Mahendranagar United by eight wickets at SSP ground, Dhangadhi, on Tuesday.

Chauraha who are now in second place with four points gathered from three matches, had kicked off their DPL campgain with a seveon-wicket defeat to Kathmandu Goldens overcoming CYC Attariya in next match.

Likewise it was the first defeat for United who is stays in fourth place with two points out of four, in six-team contest.

United were invited to bat after losing the toss and made a total of 131-8 in their allotted 20 overs whereas Chauraha achieved the target in the loss of two wickets in 18 overs.

United made a poor start to the innings with their openers Binod Bhandari and Aasif Sheikh creating a partnership of 22-run only for the first wicket. Captain Bhandari made 16-ball 11 whereas sheikh scored eight runs facing eight balls.

United's Indian recruit Puneet Mehra was top-scorer of the team as he smashed 40 runs off 22 balls that included two sixes and one four while Bhuvan Karki (32) was their next scorer. Likewise, Punit Bista (24) was United's another notable contributor.

Player-of-the-match Lalit Bhandari bagged four wickets for Chauraha while Sompal Kami and Samsad Sheikh added one wicket each.

Chasing the modest target, Chauraha made a positive start to the innings as openers ashfaq Ahmed and Sunil Dhamala created a 47-run partnership for the first wicket. United Arab Emirates international Ahmed scored 24-ball 30 smashing six boundaries whereas unbeaten Dhamala chipped in 46 runs facing 47 deliveries. Dhamala cracked two sixes and three fours.

Another UAE batsman Rohan Mustafa was Chauraha's next best scorer as he contributed 30-ball 39 that included three sixes and one four while Sonu Tamang made added 15 for the winning side.

Avinash Karna and Puneet Mehra tooke one wicket each for United.
