Thakuri wins gold

KATHMANDU: Dakshina Shahi Thakuri won gold medal in the 21st Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship held in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Out of the five players who made it to the final, only Thakuri bagged gold beating a player from Hong Kong in the final of the Under-42kg weight category. Nepal won a total of one gold, four silver and six bronze medals in the tournament.

Suprima Bajgai (29kg), Bikesh Bidari (74kg), Laxmi Ghale (62kg) and Sujan Gurung (45kg) won silver medals, while Mission Raskoti, Akash Pun, Sagar Tangnami, Amrit Thapa, Prakash Thapa and Sumitra Khatri bagged bronze medals.

A total of 13 Nepali took part in the tournament participated in by 21 countries. Kumar Lama Ghising is the team coach, while Rajiv Maharjan and Raju Khadka are managers.

Nepal Taekwondo Association Member and Grading Chief Norbu Lama officiated in the tournament.
