DAV beat Dream Land in opener

Lalitpur, July 18

DAV School recorded a 2-0 victory over Dream Land in the inaugural match of the Coca-Cola National Inter-school Football Tournament here today.

In the boys’ section match of the district level tournament for Kathmandu and Lalitpur played at the ANFA Complex grounds, Anyana Prajuli and Nayab Hussain scored a goal each as DAV walked away with three points.

A total of 1,500 schools from 44 districts are competing in the tournament which will be held in three phases — district, regional and national level. The national-level winners in both boys and girls categories will earn Rs 300,000 each, while the runners-up and third place finishers will get Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.

The best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward will receive Rs 5,000 apiece.

Out of the total budget of Rs 10.15 million, main sponsors Bottlers Nepal Limited will provide the All Nepal Football Association with five million rupees, while Nepal government has allocated two million rupees.

Meanwhile, Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the tournament. ANFA President Narendra Shrestha said the tournament played a key role in the development of football in the country. “The Coca-Cola Cup has contributed a lot in Nepali football as the grassroots development is the most important part,” said Shrestha.

Managing Director of Bottlers Nepal Limited Puneet Varshney was delighted over the impact of the competition in the development of football. “We are proud that a number of players have emerged through the Coca-Cola Cup and represented the country in international competitions,” said Vashney.
